Recently got pulled over because I was driving at night and unknowingly had no lights shining on my license plate (both went out at once, pretty sure it's a broken connection inside the assembly). I got a 'fix it' ticket that says to have it fixed within 5 days and checked by a police officer, then bring this copy of the ticket to the PD.

This is a problem.

Today is the earliest I can get my hands on the tools needed to remove the taillight assembly, and this is the fifth day. I have absolutely no idea what will happen if I *don't* get it back to the PD.

Thing is, this isn't the first time I've been pulled over. I got pulled over one other time for having a headlight out, and was issued some other sort of ticket (I believe it was also a fix-it ticket) but I never went to the PD or anything, just replaced the bulb a week later and went on my merry way. No repercussions, never looked closely enough at the ticket to see the "prove you fixed it" part of the citation. Also I had no current proof of insurance in the car because I'm a dumbass, but the officer was female and maybe it was my manly charms but she just waved that off and didn't mention it, so I don't know if anything that happened there can be a baseline.

Everything I've read says I need to get it fixed, then go to the PD and *pay a fee* and have it signed, though it already has a signature and a printed notice from the chief of police saying "no fine or court appearance is necessary, only your cooperation" so now I'm doubly confused.

all i know is i was presented a "fix it ticket" on a friday, and in my state it is a 3 day term. I couldn't find a shop open on saturday or sunday to fix it, and i already had 5 points on my lisence, and the officer told me if i didn't get it fixed I would probably lose my licenses (so obviously there were points involved if I failed to fix it). This was in Pennsylvania.

Then again, this is Kansas where you're allowed to drive with headphones on, flip-flops, no shoes, etc.

yeah, got pulled over at noon for a front right bulb in my dads car. I said that it was daytime and he said "if you're going to use any equipment it all has to be safe". i wish police would protect the public from dangerous things instead of engage in a pissing match with drivers

I don't think there's a law regarding wearing shoes or not anywhere

It's an urban legend law. Everyone thinks it exists, but it really doesn't.
